CAHSEE Exemption

California Education Code Section 60852.4 provided for a one-year exemption that allowed students in the Class of 2007 with disabilities to be granted a high school diploma without meeting the California High School Exit Examination requirement.

Beginning with the Class of 2008, all students with disabilities intending to earn a regular high school diploma must meet the CAHSEE requirement and complete all state and district graduation requirements. The exemption allowed in 2007 is no longer in effect.

The CAHSEE requirement can be met in the following ways. Students may:

• Take the exam without accommodations or modifications and earn a score of 350 or higher.
• Take the exam with accommodations and earn a score of 350 or higher.
• Take the exam with modifications, earn a score of 350 or higher and be granted a waiver of the requirement to pass the CASEE by the local board of education.

Please note that a combination of the above may occur. For example, a student may take the English Language Arts section with accommodations and receive a score of 350 or higher; take the mathematics section with a modification (e.g., a calculator) and receive a score of 350 or higher. In this case, the waiver would be granted for the
mathematics section of the exam.

If you have questions regarding the CAHSEE please contact Erin Gordon, Assessment Services, at (619) 725-5687 or by email at egordon@sandi.net.

Advanced Placement Reports
Advanced Placement (AP) reports for the district and individual schools are now available on the Research and Reporting web page at http://studata.sandi.net/research/ap. These reports display results from the last six years (2001-2006) for Grade 10-12 test takers, AP course enrollments, and AP tests taken. These district-generated
reports may differ from other published reports due to data cleaning procedures in which student-level records received from the College Board are validated using district and AP course enrollment records.

Student Summary Reports include the following data for Grade 10-12 students:

    1. Total students enrolled in the district
    2. Number and percentage of students who enrolled in an AP course
    3. Number of students enrolled in an AP course who took an AP test and percentage of AP course enrollees who took an AP test
    4. Number of students enrolled in an AP course who passed an AP test and percentage of AP course enrollees taking an AP test who passed the test

"By School: Districtwide" reports present these data for individual schools and the district as a whole; "By Demographic Subgroup: Districtwide and Individual Schools" reports present these data for various demographic subgroups (ethnicity, English language proficiency, gender, eligibility for free or reduced-price meals, AVID status, and gifted-identified status); and "Individual Schools by Demographic Subgroup" reports present these data for the demographic subgroups for individual schools and the district as a whole.

AP Course Enrollment Summary Reports include the following data for Grade 10-12 students:

1. Total number of subjects in which an AP course is offered
2. Total students enrolled
3. Number of AP course enrollments (a student may be counted more than once) and number of AP course enrollments per 100 students
4. Number of AP tests taken by AP course enrollees and percentage of AP course enrollments resulting in an AP test
5. Number of AP tests passed by AP course enrollees and percentage of AP tests taken passed by AP course enrollees

"By School: Districtwide" reports present these data for individual schools and the district as a whole; "By Demographic Subgroup: Districtwide and Individual Schools" reports present these data for various demographic subgroups (ethnicity, English language proficiency, gender, eligibility for free or reduced-price meals, AVID status, and gifted-identified status) for individual schools and the district as a whole.

AP Test Summary Reports include the following data for Grade 10-12 students:

1. Number and percentage of AP tests taken with and without a corresponding AP course enrollment
2. Number and percentage of AP tests passed with and without a corresponding AP course enrollment

"By School: Districtwide" reports present these data by AP test for individual schools and the district as a whole; "By AP Test: Districtwide and Individual Schools" reports present these data for the district and by individual school by AP test; "By School: Districtwide, AP Tests with a Corresponding AP Course" and "By School: Districtwide, AP Tests Without a Corresponding AP Course" present data similar to "By School: Districtwide" in a different format.

Questions about these reports may be directed to Leah Baylon of the Research and Reporting Department (619.725.7202 or lbaylon@sandi.net).
