Important Changes Due to the Wild Fires

Cumulative Benchmark Assessments: The testing window for the Cumulative Literacy and Mathematics Benchmarks has been extended by one week– from October 29-November 2 to November 5-November 9. This will give schools more time to make sure that classes are covered and that students have had sufficient time to learn essential content before taking the assessments. Please note that answer documents will need to be returned to the Assessment Services Department by November 9 so that the district can process/score the assessments and provide results for each classroom and school.

DRA/EDL: The reporting window for the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA)/Evaluación del desarrollo de la lectura (EDL) has been extended by one week from October 29-November 2 to November 5-November 9.

First Progress Reporting Period Extended: The end of the first reporting period/quarter will be extended one week, from Friday, November 2 to Friday, November 9. This will give schools more time to assess students, determine grades, and complete progress reports.

    • Elementary schools using the traditional progress report may delay submission of scan sheets until Monday, November 5 and receive delivery of progress reports the week of November 12.

    • Elementary schools using the Standards-Based Report Card (SBRC) may complete/generate progress reports at any time after the end of the first reporting period (Friday, November 9). Step-by-step directions for “extending” the SBRC reporting window can be found at: (https://www.sandi.net/dwa/zangle//readandlearn/handbooks/systemadmin_handbook_v2.0.pdf). Directions to “open and close” mark reporting windows can be found on page 47. If you wish additional information, please contact Richard Ojeda at rojeda@sandi.net.

    • Secondary schools that issue nine-week progress reports may generate/distribute them at any time after the end of the first quarter (November 9). Please read information in the following section if you wish to make any changes to your parent-teacher conference days.
Option to Reschedule Parent-Teacher Conference Days: Any changes to previously approved minimum days must be approved by Transportation Services. If you wish to make changes, please submit the Request for Minimum Days 2007-08: Secondary Schools (http://www.sandi.net/staff/circulars/0607/ac084.pdf) or Request for Parent-Teacher Conference Dates 2007-08: Elementary Schools (http://www.sandi.net/staff/circulars/0607/ac085.pdf) to each of the following individuals/departments:
    • Planning Section, Transportation Services (Nancy Hollenbaugh, Fax: 858-496-8700)
    • Your Area/Assistant Superintendent
    • Pupil Accounting (Eugene Brucker Education Center, Room 3202)
    • School Police Services (Eugene Brucker Education Center, EOC Trailer)

Please do not notify parents, staff, or students of the new conferencing dates/minimum days until written confirmation from Transportation Services is received.

EL/RFEP Classroom Reports: To ensure that schools have had sufficient time to place ELs in appropriate instructional programs (following CELDT testing), we will wait an additional week to download your master schedules. Hopefully you will be able to make final changes by November 2. We will work from your master schedules on November 5 and will alert you to the availability of your classroom reports about a week later. Thanks for your patience!

EXTENSION OF ELEMENTARY PROGRESS REPORTING PERIOD 1:
Due to last week's wildfires, the first Elementary Progress Reporting Period for all Traditional and Year-Round schools has been extended to Friday, November 9. This extension will give schools more time to assess students and determine grades.

- Elementary schools using traditional progress reports may delay submission of scan sheets until Monday, November 5 and receive delivery of progress reports the week of November 12. Schools that submitted early pickup requests (via fax) for progress reports were contacted by IT Operations and notified that progress reports would be available for pick-up on Friday, November 9 or Monday, November 13.

- Elementary schools using the Standards-Based Report Card (SBRC) may complete/generate progress reports at any time after the end of the first reporting period (Friday, November 9). Step-by-step directions for "extending" the SBRC reporting window can be found at: (https://www.sandi.net/dwa/zangle//readandlearn/handbooks/systemadmin_handbook_v2.0.pdf)

Each page, whether for a grade level or the combined grade levels, displays the number of students tested and the percentage of students scoring at or above the proficient level each year and the change from 2003 to 2007 and from 2006 to 2007. The data are displayed for all students, males and females, eight racial ethnic groups (African American, Asian, Filipino, Hispanic, Indochinese, Native American, Pacific Islander, and White), language status (English learner, English-speaking, and, within English-speaking, reclassified and fluent English-speaking), economic status (economically disadvantaged, non-economically disadvantaged), gifted status (gifted and not gifted), and special education status (special education and not special education).
