The California Department of Education has developed and implemented an alternate assessment for children with
moderate or profound disabilities who receive a primarily functional or life skills curriculum and are unable
to participate in more traditional statewide assessment programs. The California Alternate Performance Assessment
(CAPA) is the alternate for California's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. CAPA has been administered
to district students in grades 2-11 in the spring of 2003 through 2007 as part of the STAR Program. More information
about the CAPA can be found on the California Department of Education CAPA web site.
Five levels of the CAPA test are given:
- Level I, for profoundly disabled students functioning at or below 24 months developmentally, grades 2-11
- Level II, for students in grades 2 and 3
- Level III, for students in grades 4 and 5
- Level IV, for students in grades 6-8
- Level V, for students in grades 9-11
A student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) determines whether the student is eligible for Level I or the student’s grade-assigned level.
Note: The results posted here may differ slightly from state-reported results. These summaries are based on
data that have been updated to make results more accurate (e.g., demographic data corrected, duplicate results
eliminated, assignment of students to more detailed locations). Moreover, district summaries posted here include
all district students; state-reported district-level data do not include district schools which contracted directly
with the test publisher for their test administration.
