The Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) Algebra Readiness Test is given to students in Grade 7
near the end of the school year. This test assesses grade-level mathematics skills and is tied to state
content standards. The results of the MDTP Algebra Readiness Test are used to measure student readiness
for placement into algebra courses and to provide diagnostic information for teachers.
The test consists of 45 problems: 4 devoted to data analysis, probability, and statistics;
8 to decimals and percentages; 4 to simple equations and operations with literal symbols;
4 to exponents, square roots, and scientific notation; 9 to fractions; 5 to measurements of geometric objects;
4 to graphical representation; and 7 to integers.
The MDTP summaries for each school and the district indicate how students performed on the MDTP Algebra
Readiness Test. They display the number and percentage of students scoring at various levels based on the
number of correct answers. The test results in turn are combined with mathematics class marks to indicate
how students placed in relation to district grade level standards (significantly below grade level, below
grade level, or above/at/close to grade level) used for placement decisions.
