California High School Exit Exam

The California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) ensures that pupils who graduate from public high schools can demonstrate competency in reading, writing, and mathematics. The CAHSEE has two parts: English-language arts (ELA) and mathematics. In order to graduate, California students must pass both portions of the exam. All students are required to take the CAHSEE for the first time in grade ten.

Percentage of Students who Passed the CAHSEE

Students who pass the CAHSEE are eligible to graduate from high school if all other graduation requirements are met.

Percentage of 10th Grade Students who Passed the CAHSEE

Tenth grade is the first year students have the opportunity to pass the CAHSEE.

Percentage of 10th Grade Students who Scored Proficient or Advanced on the CAHSEE

Results on the CAHSEE are also used to determine the percentage of high school students who are proficient in English language arts and mathematics as required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

The score needed to achieve proficiency is higher than that needed to pass the test.
