Adequate Yearly Progress

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measures how well a district or school is performing based on standards required by the federal No Child Left Behind law. To make AYP districts and schools and numerically significant subgroups must meet or exceed criteria annually in the following four areas:

  • Participation Rate
  • Percentage of students proficient in English language arts and mathematics
  • Academic Performance Index
  • Graduation Rate

A district or school that receives federal Title I funds that does not make AYP for two consecutive years is identified for Program Improvement (PI).
